Online information session in preparation for 2021-2022 BMSB risk season

Every year, the authorities of Australia and New Zealand organize a special information session for the upcoming BMSB risk season. During this information session for both new and existing treatment providers, the latest developments are discussed and participants are given the opportunity to ask questions and seek technical advice.

After a careful selection process, BMSB treatment providers are part of a select group of companies that are allowed to perform treatments against BMSB under the Offshore BMSB Treatment Providers Scheme. Recently, more than 150 treatment providers from all over Europe participated in this online session in preparation for the 2021-2022 BMSB risk season.

The importance of a careful treatment program for the protection of wildlife in both Australia and New Zealand was emphasized. The authorities indicated that they had seen a clear effect of the extensive and careful measures to keep the Brown Marmorated Stink Bug out. For example, there is a decreasing trend in the number of registrations of live bugs upon arrival of goods in Australia.

The BMSB treatment providers are expected to adhere to the strict rules of the program. Certificates of treatment, as well as collecting, storing and demonstrating all data associated with the treatment, are crucial in this respect. Last season, several companies were again suspended by the authorities of Australia and New Zealand for non-compliance with the program.
